Recycling at Heights

Written by Callie Mauk

In recent years, there have been many concerns raised regarding the environment. The “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” motto has set a new standard for living. From solar and wind energy to fuel-efficient cars, the world is finding new and numerous ways to limit waste. One effort made Heights as a whole is recycling. Each and every Friday, members of the Leadership Advisory Council gather paper, cans, and plastic for recycle. Last school year, Heights collected 7,327 pounds of recyclable material, raising $495.89 total. The winner district wide based on pounds per student was Southeast who recycled over 230,000 pounds, or rather 12 lbs. per student. In August and September of this year alone, Height has recycled 2390 pounds. As the students and faculty continually optimize their resources, the environment is greatly benefitted by their efforts.
