Russell Simmons, Kanye West, Alec Baldwin, and Lupe Fiasco are just a few of the celebrities who have hopped on board the Occupy Wall Street (#OWS) movement in New York City since September 27th. Since the movement started in late September it has gained world-wide recognition and has even influenced protests in 145 other cities.

Occupy Wall Street is a movement that the 99% (99% of the country's people who earn less than $500,000 annually) are doing to stop the greed and corruption of the 1% (1% of the country's people who earn more than $500,000 annually). The point of the movement is to strengthen democracy, and to end the domination of big money interests. In other words, putting an end to laws that only benefit the wealthiest Americans. Our society right now appears as a modern form of slavery because the 99% of Americans are working hard and barely getting paid enough money to live.

I think that this is a movement that EVERYONE should be a part of, because whether you realize it or not, it's affecting you in someway. The people already supporting the cause really want all Americans to understand what this is about. The media thinks the only people supporting the cause are people who are homeless or unemployed. However, that is far from the truth. People in Wichita with full time jobs are even involved.
