Your composite score on your ACT could make a big difference in the decision of whether or you get accepted into your college of choice. It can even help decide if you get directly admitted into your college's School of Business (and others alike), or not, resulting in a year spent taking a curriculum such as Pre-Business.

If you're anything like me, you'd rather not have to spend a year studying a pre-curriculum, so direct admission into your declared major is very important. I've done some research and I've found some tools that have been reviewed by others as being supplemental to achieving a higher ACT composite score outside of regular school teachings.

The Real ACT Prep Guide (Paperback, $30.65 NEW):
This seems to be a lot of people's favorite book to study from. The book was constructed & written by the creators of the ACT, which could be a big reason as to why this book appeals to so many people. It gives some valuable tips that other books do not include, such as how the tests are broken down, for example: the English test will ALWAYS have 10 questions testing punctuation, 12 questions testing grammar, 18 questions testing sentence structure, etc. Things like that can be very helpful in preparing for the ACT. It also includes 5 official practice tests from previous tests.

Cracking the ACT, 2011 (Paperback, $9.99 NEW):
This guide was written by a man who has gotten a perfect score on the ACT over six times. It seems to be the favorite for people who wait until the last minute to start preparing for the test. Like the book above, it gives helpful tips also, such as: the fact that the answer "its" should never be chosen because it is grammatically impossible, and how to use your time effectively while taking the test.

But, remember, the keys to getting better scores on any test is repetition and preparation. It's never too early to start preparing for the ACT (I wish that I had started earlier my junior year or even later in my sophomore year). Add a book with practice tests/questions to any of these Prep Guides to increase the potential of your score increasing.
