Taylor Mali Skype's with Heights

Written by Connor Simmon

Taylor Mali Skyped with heights students Friday, February third for about twenty minutes. During this time he talked to students to inspire them to go to school and answered questions that they had. Taylor inspired students with his superior speaking skills and just by the fact that he would take time out of his day to high school students.

Besides the motivation Taylor gave students, there was also the feeling that Heights cares about English and other things besides sports. Heights seems to not put as much importance on academics as it does with sports, and getting someone to encourage academics was a refreshing reminder for students that Heights does care about academics.

Setting up the event technically wasn’t hard, the district only had to allow Skype to be used; the part that took the most work was arranging it with Taylor, which Mr. Akins set up. Mr. Akins and Taylor Mali emailed back and forth everyday for two months while arranging things, eventually they settled on February third during the first half of advocacy. Many students went to it and enjoyed what Taylor said and went away motivated.H

Forever Alone

by: Aaron Barnes

I wish I had a date tonight, somebody to be here with me.

But I am so alone tonight, alone anyone can see.

I cannot help but feel forsaken, on this, the saddest of days.

I can’t help but realize I am alone in many ways.

So I write with solemn words a verse of majesty

In hopes of seeing my next day, my life that’s soon to be.

Let’s hold hands and sing a song, we can spend this time together.

No? Ok. Apart we’re probably better.
